Three Gems Acupuncture~~Porland, OR~~Brett Csordas LAc

What is this medicine?
Traditional Medicine of the Far East is an empirically forged medical system comprised of acupuncture, herbalism, nutrition, bodywork and exercise.

During the last century acupuncture in particular has taken root and flourished in the West mainly on the strength of its analgesic properties. Inevitably, Western patients began to notice that other health issues faded away along with their pain after a course of treatment. When done properly acupuncture can harmonize multiple imbalances by literally tapping into the body's power of self-restoration.

How does acupuncture work?
Acupoints and their corresponding meridians of concentrated vital energy have been meticulously mapped out and assigned actions & indications via several thousand years of clinical trial and error, good record keeping and invaluable theoretical contributions from the occasional medical genius.

It is through the diagnosis and strategic stimulation of this meridian system that skilled practitioners are able to augment or redirect the body's vital energy and thereby affect change.

What can acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture's worldwide reputation in pain management is firmly established and well deserved but many patients new to this medicine are surprised to learn that acupuncture, in conjunction with herbal medicine, is effective in treating complex internal disorders as well, including but not limited to: Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, post stroke recovery, hepatitis, auto immune disorders, most digestive disorders, most forms of cold/flu, women's health issues, asthma and allergies.

Furthermore, acupuncture has a unique effect upon the mind and can help resolve stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, sugar cravings, stage fright, etc.

How many treatments comprise a single round of acupuncture?
Patients who have to pay out-of-pocket occasionally try to corner me on this one and who can blame them? It's a relative question, though, because results depend directly upon the constitution of the patient and the nature, timing and severity of the condition. It is important to understand that holistic medical therapy is a cumulative process. My short answer is 4-6 treatments within a month's time. Maybe more, hopefully less.

Does acupuncture hurt?
No. But it doesn't tickle, either. The sensation is difficult to describe but the results speak for themselves.

Do you accept insurance?
Insurance is accepted whenever acupuncture is covered within a given health plan.

I am an in-network Preferred Provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield, ODS, Kaiser/CHP, Providence, Health Net, Cigna, Aetna and most other Portland area insurance companies. MVA insurance and Worker's Comp. also accepted.
